Reclaiming Our Roots

Honouring the Healing Journeys of Black Boys and Men A Groundbreaking Afro-Centric Truth and Reconciliation Jubilee in Toronto

Toronto, ON — March 12, 2025

The Becoming Institute, alongside partners from across the country, proudly announces the upcoming event “Reclaiming Our Roots: Honouring the Healing Journeys of Black Boys and Men.” Scheduled for September 29 to October 1, 2025, in Brampton, Ontario, this event coincides with National Truth and Reconciliation Day and focuses on uplifting and empowering Black boys and men through shared experiences and collective healing from the legacies of enslavement and colonization.

Dean of the School of Psychotherapeutic Innovations at the Becoming Institute, emphasizes the critical importance of this gathering: "The legacy of colonization and enslavement has profoundly affected Black boys and men, disrupting their identities and family structures. As we witness the ongoing denial of essential resources and the funneling of our boys into the penal system, it becomes imperative to focus on healing and empowerment. This event is a step toward liberating our community from intergenerational trauma, re-establishing Black men in their roles as nurturers and protectors, and rebuilding a strong and sustainable Black ecosystem
